Bhaiya Dvij: The Festival of Brotherly Love and Spiritual Rebirth

Bhaiya Dvij is a Sanskrit term that means “twice-born”. It refers to a state of being when a person is born first physically and then spiritually. It occurs during the Upanayana ceremony, when a person is initiated into the Vedic studies and becomes a member of the Brahmin, Kshatriya, or Vaishya varnas.

Bhaiya Dvij is also the name of a festival that celebrates this second birth and the bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a sacred thread or a band, called rakhi, on their brothers’ wrists, and pray for their well-being and protection. Brothers, in turn, promise to protect and support their sisters, and give them gifts.

The festival is also a symbol of harmony and unity among different communities and religions. In this blog post, we will explore the meaning and significance of Bhaiya Dvij, its history and origin, and how to celebrate it with your siblings and friends.
